The majority of common allergy symptoms (nasal congestion, sneezing, etc.) are generally felt to be caused by airborne particles such as mold spores, house dust mites, pollens, animal danders, and microscopic insect parts. Symptoms result primarily from the inhalation of these invisible particles.
Total avoidance, of course would be the best treatment, but is not always practical. However, a reduction of exposure will generally result in a decrease in symptoms and/or symptom severity for most people.  Attempt the least expensive and most practical approaches first, based on individual desires and needs; such as removing a pet from the bedroom or obtaining mattress or pillow case covers. If at all possible, borrow or rent expensive equipment first to see if it helps before spending large sums of money.
The links provided have good products and services. They can provide additional information on how to reduce or eliminate exposure to most allergens.
